SHANNON LIMITED LIABILITY COMPANY (“SHANNON”) has added support in voicast, Conversational AI for Developers that answers phone calls, for calls over SIP from a PBX or cloud PBX and from telephony platforms other than Twilio.
Background
Until now, voicast took phone calls only through Twilio’s TwiML (<Connect><Stream>). Companies whose numbers live on a PBX, a cloud PBX, or a telephony platform other than Twilio had to change how calls were connected to use voicast.
With this update, you keep your phone numbers, lines and call flow, and send calls to voicast from the phone system you already use to add AI call handling. For example, send only after-hours or overflow calls on your main number to the AI, or place an AI receptionist as one step of a contact center IVR.
What is supported
- Audio streams from telephony platforms: In addition to Twilio, voicast receives call audio over WebSocket from Telnyx, Plivo, Vonage, Exotel and Genesys Cloud (Audio Connector)
- Audio streams from a PBX: PBXs that can send call audio over WebSocket, such as Asterisk (chan_websocket), can connect directly
- SIP from a PBX or cloud PBX: A PBX or cloud PBX that can send calls out over SIP can send them to
sip.voicast.jp. Each tenant gets SIP credentials (a Digest username and password) to verify incoming calls. Audio is G.711 (μ-law, A-law)
With every option, the AI’s handling, data collection, results and summaries (API and webhook) and pricing are the same as for existing phone calls.
See Phone in the docs for how to connect. The product page covers voicast’s features and pricing.
